Occupational Safety and Health Week

Dear Members,

This week is Occupational Safety and Health Week, and IUOE Local 727 wants to recognize the importance of health and safety for all frontline healthcare and emergency service workers across Nova Scotia.

We proudly recognize our Paramedics, Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), Clinical Transport Operators (CTOs), EHS Communications staff, LifeFlight crews, support staff, and healthcare partners who continue to serve communities every single day under challenging and often unpredictable conditions.

Whether responding to emergencies, transporting patients, coordinating care, or supporting frontline operations behind the scenes, our members face physical risks, mental stress, fatigue, workplace violence, and critical decision-making every shift. Health and safety is not just a policy — it is about protecting the people who dedicate themselves to protecting others.

As a Union, we remain committed to advocating for:

• Safe staffing levels

• Mental health and wellness supports

• Violence prevention initiatives

• Proper equipment and training

• Healthy and respectful workplaces

• Strong health and safety protections for all classifications

We encourage all members to continue speaking up about safety concerns, supporting one another, and helping build a culture where safety is always a priority — not an afterthought.

Your safety matters. Your wellbeing matters. And your dedication to the people of Nova Scotia does not go unnoticed.
