To All Members of IUOE Local 727,
I am very pleased to announce that we have successfully concluded an agreement with the International Union of Operating Engineers Headquarters in Washington, DC. This agreement enables us to pay our outstanding debt to the International in full, placing our Local in good standing and making us debt free.
Four years ago, I was elected by the membership to serve as your Business Manager. With the support of our staff, the International Union of Operating Engineers, and our Executive Board, we began a comprehensive renewal of our internal controls and procedures. As part of this process, we engaged an independent external audit firm to conduct a full review dating back to our original Charter.
The audit revealed that our monthly per capita had been miscalculated over the years, resulting in an outstanding balance of $814,882.00 owed to the International. This discrepancy was largely due to limitations in tracking members who were off work, newly hired, or no longer employed.
Today, thanks to advancements in technology and the implementation of new software systems, we can accurately track and maintain our monthly per capita obligations. These improvements ensure that this issue will not recur.
Through the dedicated efforts of our Office Manager, Niki Warren, our staff, and the continued support of the International Union of Operating Engineers, we established and followed a structured repayment plan. Working alongside both past and present Executive Boards, we remained committed to eliminating this debt.
I am proud to report that we are now in a financial position to complete this repayment years ahead of schedule.
I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who worked diligently to achieve this significant milestone—especially to you, our members, for your continued trust and support of IUOE Local 727.
